Mechanical shaft seals

Mechanical shaft seals for pumps and rotating equipment

Mechanical shaft seals are critical components for safe and efficient operation in pumps, mixers and other rotating equipment. They act as shaft seals that prevent leakage of liquids and gases between rotating and stationary parts, while reducing wear and protecting machine components. The correct choice of mechanical shaft seal is crucial for operational reliability, service life and reduced maintenance costs.

Seal performance is affected by factors such as pressure, temperature, media and speed, so it is important to choose the right type and material combination for the application.

At Otto Olsen, we deliver mechanical shaft seals for demanding industrial environments, with a focus on quality, availability and technical advice for optimal operation.

Mechanical shaft seals with conical spring for versatile use

Mechanical shaft seals with conical springs are a proven and effective design. Combined with various O-rings and sliding surfaces, these seals can be used in a wide range of applications.

They are suitable for pumps, mixers, agitators, compressors and other rotating shaft equipment.

Rubber bellows shaft seals for demanding and hygienic applications

Rubber bellows shaft seals are developed for demanding applications, especially with media containing solid particles and in hygienic processes.

These mechanical shaft seals can be adjusted to the desired working length and are well suited for pumps, mixers, agitators, compressors and other rotating shaft equipment in the process and industrial sectors.

Shaft seals with parallel spring and diaphragm for flexible installation

Parallel spring and diaphragm shaft seals with flexible single springs and elastomer diaphragms are flexible solutions for both standard and demanding operating conditions.

They have the same clamping dimensions as rubber bellows and conical spring seals, making them easy to replace and adapt to existing installations.

They are suitable for pumps, mixers, agitators, compressors and other rotating shaft equipment.

Parallel spring seals with O-ring for industrial standard applications

Parallel spring seals with O-ring are robust and universal mechanical shaft seals, suitable for both metric and imperial dimensions. They are often used in the maritime, paper and wastewater industries, and can replace several well-known standard types.

The Type 9x series is a direct replacement for the John Crane®/Flexibox® types R00, R10, R20 and R30, as well as the Pillar® US1, US2 and US3 series (CGU).

Multi-spring seals for high performance in demanding industrial environments

These mechanical shaft seals are designed to withstand the most demanding industrial operating conditions, especially in the chemical industry.

The multi-spring seals require less axial height to achieve the necessary closing force on the sealing surfaces, which enables compact designs with shorter working lengths.

Unlike larger single-spring solutions, these shaft seals have minimal deformation at high speeds.

Mechanical seals with wave springs for viscous and demanding media

Mechanical shaft seals with wave springs are bidirectional, providing a uniform and low load on the sealing surfaces, ensuring optimal operation. This design significantly increases the seal life and provides very high operational reliability.

The series is well suited for high viscosity media, especially coagulating or crystallizing products, as the spring does not tend to clog or block.

Balanced mechanical shaft seals for increased service life and operational reliability

Balanced mechanical shaft seals reduce friction and heat generation through hydraulic balancing. This provides better performance, higher reliability and longer service life compared to unbalanced solutions, and is a good choice for demanding operating conditions. For further increased reliability, the lip is supported by an additional drive ring, which ensures that the drive ring is held in a stable position, separate from the bellows.

For types A2 to A5, a solution is offered where the base plates remain mounted on the spring, providing the necessary support and simplifying the installation of the seal.
