PRESS RELEASE: Otto Olsen aims to become CO2-neutral!

In 2023, Otto Olsen can proudly declare himself a sustainable contributor to the green shift.

With 15.000m2 of newly installed solar panels on the roof with an estimated production of 1.400.000 kWh per year, the production company will in the long run save the environment from significant CO2 emissions!

- This will both ensure more predictable electricity costs for our own consumption, but is also an important environmental saving, says Otto Olsen's general manager, Kjetil Høgbakken.

Sustainability in practice

Sustainability manager Anders Vieth Rør at Solcellespesialisten AS has no doubt that Otto Olsen has made both an important and right choice.

He believes the project is a good example of sustainability in practice, and encourages companies that sit on large commercial properties to help contribute to the green shift.

- For Otto Olsen, the solar panels will be emission-free after 0,5-1,5 years of production, and then exclusively produce renewable energy for a full 30 years.

Vieth Rør further explains that the solar system will provide more predictable electricity costs. In the summer half-year, the plant will produce more than the company's actual needs and the company will first use its self-produced solar power, and then get increased income from the sale of excess power. In the winter months, the need will be greater and electricity will have to be bought back. With the year taken as a whole, Otto Olsen will become a net producer of electricity of 300-000 kWh.

A greener footprint

The future requires constant adjustment and at Otto Olsen the goal of becoming CO2-neutral is part of a long-term investment with several ongoing projects that will help them on their way.

- The new investment on the roof is an important element. Solar power is a clean, easily accessible and inexhaustible source of energy. We are constantly looking for new opportunities to achieve an even greener footprint, and our ambitions are high going forward, assures sales and marketing manager Michael Mørum.

The company has also carried out a review of its entire energy consumption and implemented several measures to reduce consumption. The effect of these measures is believed to reduce the company's consumption by 10-20%.

- With a building mass of almost 19 m000 that houses offices, warehouses and production areas, the potential for reducing electricity consumption is great, concludes the sales and marketing manager.
